London 2012 Olympic Games

Young Olympic hopefuls have been awarded £500.00 sponsorship each to further their sporting careers after winning a competition run by Crowhurst Park.

The sports park and holiday village invited budding sports people across Hastings, Rother and Eastbourne to come forward in the run up to the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics. Competition applicants had to provide details of their achievements and a proposal about how they would spend the sponsorship funds.

A panel of judges chose winners in two categories - under and over 18's - who have been presented with the money and free membership at Crowhurst Park for three years. Two runners-up have also received free membership for this period.

Judges included Crowhurst Park general manager Gary Honeysett, Observer editor-in-chief Keith Ridley and Hastings Half Marathon organiser Eric Hardwicke. The judges praised the high standards of the entries. Mr Honeysett said: "Initially we asked for able-bodied and paralympians to apply with the idea of having a winner and runner up in each category, sadly, no paralympians applied but we still wanted to support four individuals so we decided to divide the applicants by age having one under 18 group and the other 18 and over."
